Journal of This Southern Africa Adventure

March, 2000

30 March

The rain has let off a little bit but the rivers continue to run high.  All the dams are full which makes for ideal kayaking (yes I finally was able to do my first whitewater kayaking in Africa).

There was a small newspaper article the other day.  It was about a theft of South African Defense Force  (the army) items.  The article stated that the stolen items included some furniture, clothing, blankets, and ........ a missile.   It then stated that other stolen items included the usual firearms.  Word on the street says that if you happen to see a missile, you should duck.

We took a week off from work and went to Cape Town.   This is the second most popular tourist attraction in South Africa (after Kruger National Park).  Cape Town is an ideal place for tourists.  There is lots to do and see.  We were joined midweek by Theresa who came for business and a little sightseeing with us.

Lots to see and do in the Cape Town area including visiting the wharf area and table mountain,
