| Mile 72.5 Unkar is
another great place for a layover. The panoramic views are fantastic.

 A

Looking out a side Canyon that we call Playdoeo Canyon because the cliffs
look like they were made with putty. Playdoeo Canyon offers a cool place to hang out
on a hot day at Unkar.

Another view of upstream at a different time of day. Compare this
with the picture above. |

twist in the river shows how Unkar Rapid can sneak up on those without a river guide map.

 There
is an island just upstream of the camp site.

 The
cliffs around Unkar glow when the sun starts to go down. This view of the south rim
shows snow at the higher elevations. This is a common site in March. The
temperature at Unkar during the day was about 85 degrees.

 This
is another view of the mesa. |
 The
white capped south rim rises high above Unkar Rapid. |
 We
saw the Hale-Bopp Comet from Unkar that night although this is not really what we saw.
